Take a campus tour, experience sample lectures and tutorials, and get all your questions answered by our admissions team.

University open days

The University usually holds two annual open days, one in June and one in November.

Open days provide potential applicants with a chance to look around the campus and find out more about the course you are interested in.

If you visit campus on an open day, then the admissions team will give a detailed presentation about applying and studying here. Members of the admissions and administration team will also be available to answer any queries you may have.

Parents and teachers are also more than welcome to attend.

Manchester Institute of Education (MIE) open days


  • Tuesday 3 October 2017, 4.30pm to 7pm

The University of Manchester is holding a fair for anyone thinking about a career in teaching. Come along to find out about our PGCEs - ten-month courses that enable graduates to train to teach and gain Qualified Teacher Status (QTS). You will be able to speak to course tutors for our primary PGCEs and subject specialists for our secondary PGCEs, including:

  • Business Education
  • Economics with Business Education
  • English
  • Geography
  • History
  • Mathematics
  • Science (Chemistry, Biology, Physics and Physics with Mathematics)
  • Modern Languages (French, German and Spanish)

Our admissions staff will be on hand to answer questions on entry requirements, professional skills tests and subject enhancement courses, as well as information on the bursaries and scholarships available. University of Manchester graduates may also be eligible for an additional £1,000 Alumni bursary.

Twilight sessions

We offer sessions with a University tutor, where you can go over the application process and get advice on completing your personal statement.

All sessions to take place 4pm-6pm in the Ellen Wilkinson Building, Oxford Road.

Train to Teach

The University of Manchester’s PGCE tutors attend the Department for Education’s Train to Teach events in Manchester.

Taster sessions

We have teamed up with schools in the local area to provide graduates with Primary and Secondary teaching taster sessions.

This involves spending a full day at a school for the opportunity to attend an assembly, sit in on a lesson and discuss postgraduate teacher training with a current head teacher and staff from The University of Manchester.
