Normally, we require a minimum of an upper-second bachelor's degree in a relevant field or a minimum of a merit at master's degree level in a relevant field.

Accreditation for Prior Learning will be considered. Credit would only be given for whole course units, where consideration has been given to mapping the intended learning outcomes of the unit to the evidence provided.

How to apply

The deadline for applications is 31 August 2018; later applications are considered at our discretion. Please note that we receive a very high number of applications, so the course may be closed to new applications before the final deadline given.

If you applied in the previous year and your application was not successful, you may apply again. Your application will be considered against the standard course entry criteria for that year of entry. In your new application, you should demonstrate how your application has improved. We may draw upon all information from your previous applications or any previous registrations at the University as a student when assessing your suitability for your chosen course.

Course overview

  • It is ideal if you want to apply for an ESRC or School of Environment, Education and Development (SEED) scholarship, as 70% of the ESRC Core Training can be demonstrated prior to commencing a PhD.
