Where are you from?

Lewis Haines

I am from Nottingham, which being not too dissimilar to Manchester meant the city was not too overwhelming on arrival.

Why did you choose Manchester?

I originally applied to do environmental management due to my keen interest in sustainability issues and conservation.

It was through my first year that I developed a keen interest in planning, and I was able to swap at the end of my first year.

I think the fact that planning issues have such a huge effect on the places we live make it a fascinating topic to study and the evolving nature of the system mean that the subject is never boring!

What has surprised you most about university?

I think it’s the impact the University has on Manchester as a whole (but perhaps that's because I’ve been doing planning for three years). Oxford road really is brought to life during term time.

If you could invite anyone, living or dead, to dinner, who would it be and why?

Perhaps a bit obvious but definitely David Attenborough, simply because he’s so easy to listen to and the amazing stories he’d have to tell. Plus he’s always wearing a shirt so you’d never have to worry about being overdressed!
