Where are you from?

Samantha Franchesca

I’m from Singapore; it’s a tropical country so the weather there is really hot.

One of the few benefits growing up in Singapore was the diverse range of ethnicity and cultures that were embedded into us since young.

Of course, not forgetting the cheap getaways to the surrounding Southeast Asian countries!

Why did you choose Manchester?

The University of Manchester is a well-known university that is highly recognised in many places. I chose planning because I wanted to understand more about the development of a country and how some cities become so successful while some don’t.

What has surprised you most about university?

The Harry Potter look-a-like building that is Whitworth Hall! Also the amount of international students attending the University surprised me too.

If you could invite anyone, living or dead, to dinner, who would it be and why?

I would invite four people! First person is Lee Kuan Yew, Singapore’s former Senior Minister. I would love to have a chat with a smart guy like him. The remaining three people are my family; it’ll be nice to have a dinner with them as they are half way round the globe.
