Open days

Take a campus tour, experience sample lectures and tutorials, and get all your questions answered by our admissions team.

There are two types of open event you can attend before joining Geography at The University of Manchester:

  1. University open days - For potential applicants
  2. Geography taster days - For applicants who have received an offer from the University.

University open days

The University usually holds two annual open days, one in June and one in November.

Open days provide potential applicants with a chance to look around the campus and find out more about the course you are interested in.

If you visit campus on an open day, then the Geography admissions tutor will give a detailed presentation about applying and studying here. Members of the admissions and administration team will also be available to answer any queries you may have.

Parents and teachers are also more than welcome to attend.

Geography taster days

Once an application for a Geography course has been submitted and an offer has been made, we will invite applicants to a taster day.

Taster days take place on a Wednesday afternoon between November and March and give a further insight into studying Geography at Manchester. They are hosted by academic staff and the Manchester University Geography Society (MUGS).

A typical taster day could look something like this:

  • 12.45pm: Registration in Arthur Lewis Building
  • 1pm-2pm: Introductory lecture by admissions tutor and MUGS
  • 2pm-3pm: Taster lecture or tutorial
  • 3pm-3.30pm: Student-led campus tours
  • 3.30pm-4pm: Refreshments and opportunity for questions.

Parents or guardians are very welcome to attend taster days, but if more than two people wish to accompany a candidate then we do welcome a warning so we can ensure that provision is made for you. While applicants experience a taster lecture or tutorial, any parents or guardians in attendance will attend a brief talk from the admissions tutor and will also be taken on a tour.
