Our research and teaching is centred around strong relationships with professional practice and industry bodies.
These relationships take many forms, including working together on collaborative research, supporting student projects, sponsoring our awards, and visiting the studio to share expertise and projects.

Royal Town Planning Institute
The MSc Urban Design and International Planning course is fully accredited by the Royal Town Planning Institute. The RTPI have also employed the MUD Lab to deliver CPD training through the north-west region’s LPA Engage task group.

Homes England
Homes England are the government’s housing and regeneration agency. The MUD Lab have been invited to share their Applied Urban Design process with the Homes England Sustainability and Design team, and as part of a knowledge exchange, members of the Homes England Masterplanning, Development and Design team have delivered gust talks for our students.

Stockport Metropolitan Borough Council
The MUD Lab have worked as part of a collaborative team led by Stockport Council, involving students on the MSc Urban Design and International Planning (MSc UDIP) programme to contribute to the development of the Stockport borough-wide design code.

Urban Imprint
Director of Urban Imprint, Bob Phillips, is an honorary lecturer at the University of Manchester and co-author of the book ‘Applied Urban Desing: a Contextually Responsive Approach’. The urban design and planning team deliver guest lectures, design crits, walking tours, and dissertation supervision as part of the MSc UDIP programme.
