This award will cover tuition fees and include an annual stipend (£18,668 in 2022-23) for a period of three and a half years, subject to satisfactory progress.

Specified use

The School of Environment, Education and Development (SEED) is pleased to announce the award of Enhancing Racial Equality Scholarship for September 2023 entry.

SEED is committed to truly engaging with principles of equality, diversity, and inclusion, including recognising those systemic barriers to inclusion, and we aim to ensure our student cohort reflects the diverse community we serve. We recognise that the entire HE sector needs to do more to adopt an anti-racist and inclusive agenda. This studentship is one of the ways that SEED is addressing the challenges.

This scholarship is open to `Home' (UK) applicants and offer holders who identify as Black and Asian Minority Ethnic (BAME)/People of Colour.

Tenable period

The scholarship is available for 3.5 year full-time programmes or the equivalent duration part time.

Continuation of award

Continuation of the award is subject to satisfactory progress.

Academic requirements

Candidates should meet the entry requirements of the School of Environment, Education and Development:

  • Bachelor degree with First Class or Upper Second Class Honours (or international equivalent)
  • Master degree with a minimum grade of 60% in the dissertation and a minimum taught average grade of 60% (or international equivalent)

Applicants must hold an offer of study at The University of Manchester before applying for this funding.

This scholarship is open to Home (UK) applicants who identify as BAME/People of Colour.

Application procedure

All applicants who wish to be considered for the Enhancing Racial Equality Scholarship must register their interest with the SEED PGR Admissions office pgr-seedfunding@manchester.ac.uk by 1st February 2023.

Those who have registered an interest will be considered for the Enhancing Racial Equality Scholarship based on their standard PhD application form (see below) - no further application is required.
