On living in Manchester

Manchester has always appealed to me. It’s a great city to be a student - the nightlife in the city is amazing, but at the same time if clubbing isn’t your scene there is still so much to do in the city. You won’t get bored!

On my field trip to Cuba

Sam Oulton

In the second semester of the second year, I was on the field course to Havana in Cuba.

We were in groups of five students and we had an amazing experience exploring and conducting our fieldwork in the city together.

The main highlight for me really was the chance to work with other people on my course and become great friends with the people on the trip.

On choosing to do a master’s

I originally chose to study Geography because I have always been interested in how the world works. I have always had a keen interest in environmentalism and social justice - Geography encompasses all of these issues.

I have a place to stay on at Manchester doing an MSc in Environmental Governance. Once I have completed my MSc, I would like to do a PhD.

My time at Manchester has really given me the urge to keep on learning, and at the same time given me many skills that will really help me in my future career, such as teamwork, leadership and public speaking.
